February Astromusings – Happy Chinese (Lunar) New Year of the Sheep

Chinese New Year of the SheepHappy Chinese (Lunar) New Year! The Year of the Sheep is upon us. This is the year of the Yin Wood Sheep which in Chinese astrology brings potential for growth. The solar year begins on 4 February but the lunar  New Year begins on 19 February. Yin wood is like a shrub or grass considered to be tactful and unyielding but always capable of growth. The sheep is a yin sign and sheep people are affectionate, caring, loyal and selfless. They make friends easily and can have a subtle influence on people. In keeping with the ram with his horns they can also be prone to stubbornness and can be argumentative so the year could bring more conflict. It marks a year to work diligently but also enjoy life. This will be a welcome relief after the intense fire energy of 2014. People born under the sign Sheep/goat were born in 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003.

12 PiscesHappy Birthday to all my Piscean friends who celebrate their birthdays from 19 February through to 20 March. The Sun moves into the sign of Pisces at precisely 10.50 am AEDT in Sydney.

NewMoonThe New Moon in Aquarius occurs 19 Feb 10;47;12 am AEDT. Sydney newmoon sun mon glyphWhat is significant about this New Moon is that it is at 29 degrees 59 at the last degree and the last minute of Aquarius before it moves into Pisces so it a liminal Moon exiting one sign and on the threshold of a new sign representing a time of transition. The New Moon phase could be likened to the chrysalis emerging out of the cocoon marking an entire new cycle of activity. It initiates and projects the seed impulse. The symbolic seed germinates underground. Therefore, it is an ideal time to initiate new projects which will come to fruition at the Full Moon. Some people perform a ritual at the New Moon phase, setting their goals and intentions that they wish to manifest at the Full Moon.

Another spectacular celestial show will be the line up of the love planets Mars and Venus with the Moon in our night sky on 19, 20 21 February. It presents the closest conjunction of the planets Venus and Mars since September 11, 2008, and they won’t couple up this closely again until October 5, 2017. Mars Venus Moon conjunction

Greste family reunited

Greste family reunited

Since my last post published in January there have been some positive developments. I wrote about the incarceration of Al Jazeera journalists, the Australian, Peter Greste, and his colleagues Mohamed Fahmy and local producer Baher Mohamed. We were all pleased for Peter Greste and family when it was announced that he was being deported so was a free man again after 400 days in gaol. Peter attributed his good condition to meditation which helped to keep him healthy mentally, physically, and spiritually. He said he intended to write a book on his experiences which would be an ideal pursuit for him during his Chiron Return. Not long after Peter was freed it was announced that his two colleagues, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed, for whom he had  been so concerned were freed on bail with a trial still pending.

Another issue which I wrote about is the plight of the two Bali Nine ‘ringleaders’ Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. Since I wrote my last post I attended a mercy vigil and concert in Martin Place for Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran organised by artist Ben Quilty, friend and mentor of Sukumaran  to whom he affectionately refers as Myu. It was a deeply moving experience where musicians and other advocates for mercy came together in solidarity of the two Bali Nine prisoners DSCN0666on death row. I wrote in my previous post that the natal charts of both Myuran and Andrew show leadership skills which they have put to good use inspiring other prisoners and supporters with their various projects in Kerobokan Prison. We have all watched with increasing tension as they and their families and their lawyers are on an emotional roller coaster ride trying to get their death sentences commuted to just a gaol sentence. So far their pleas seemed to have fallen on deaf ears although there has been a last minute delay. Some prisoners are so disturbed by the prospect of their friends and mentors, Andrew and Myuran, being shot to death that they have offered to be shot in their place. I stand for mercy and I hope you will join me in my thoughts and prayers for a miracle for Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.
