May Astromusings – Wesak Full Moon, Nepal Earthquake, the Execution of Andrew Chan & Myuran Sukumaran and the birth of a Princess

Hi dear friends,

As I mentioned to you in my previous post we have recently moved into the sign of Taurus. I have written at length on the Wesak festival and the esoteric significance of Taurus in previous posts. It is surely no coincidence that this Full Moon festival that takes place in the Himalayas the very place where the devastating Earthquake in Nepal has recently occurred. The Full Moon will occur at 1.42.02 pm AEST Sydney time on 4 May 2015. The Sun will be 13 Taurus 22 opposing the Moon in Scorpio.

Full Moon Festival in May – Wesak Festival – May 4-6, 2015

Wesak Festival

Taurus is especially connected to the Buddha as Buddha is said to have been born, reached enlightenment and died in the sign of the Bull. The Buddha, a native of Nepal, taught that the path of detachment from the desire is the vehicle for the entrance of Light. These events are celebrated each year at the Wesak Festival, the time of the full Moon when the Sun is in Taurus. It is so called as the ceremony of Wesak is held in the actual Wesak Valley in the Himalayas at the time of the Full Moon of May which is actually the Full Moon in Scorpio. Wesak, the Sun in Taurus Full Moon, is the most powerful Full Moon of the year. According to mystics the ceremony marks the return of the Buddha to help regenerate the Earth. He is said to return at this time each year to bring new light to the world. He appears above a flat rock on which a great crystal bowl filled with water rests. It is said that He and His great Brother, the World Teacher of Love, work in the closest cooperation for the spiritual benefit of humanity. Through the Buddha the wisdom of God is poured forth. Through the World Teacher of Love, the Love of God is poured forth. At the end of the ceremony the water in the bowl is distributed to all the participants who drink from their cups and share it with others. This beautiful water ceremony of communion is symbolic of the Age of Aquarius which we are entering, the Age of the Water Bearer. This full moon is the second of three powerful full moons.

The Himalayas have also been the retreat of many saints and sages and where many westerners trek the Himalayas or make spiritual pilgrimages. It is also in the vicinity of where the Hierarchy the Masters of Wisdom reside – that is The Christ, the Masters El Morya, Kuthumi and Djwhal Khul. It could also be a sign that these Masters of Wisdom are preparing to reappear. Nepal and the Himalayas are a place where East meets West and the earthquake was caused by a collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates symbolising a synthesis of Eastern and Western values to occur.

Virgo card
Demeter/Ceres & Persephone

Nepal EarthquakeIt is interesting to examine the event chart of the Nepalese earthquake ( 25 Apr, 6.11:26 am GMT 0.00 Nepal) where the Sun is prominent on the Midheaven squaring Ceres. Ceres a dwarf planet was the first of the asteroids discovered by Italian astronomer, Father Guiseppi Piazzi. In mythology Roman Ceres or Greek Demeter was the universal mother and goddess of the grain who in her grief stopped all growth when her daughter Persephone was abducted by Pluto and taken to the Underworld to be his bride. Only when Zeus brokered an agreement between his warring siblings for time-sharing of Persephone with her husband in the Underworld and her mother in the upper regions was the vegetation restored by Ceres. Through her mythological role and participation in the Eleusinian Mysteries, Ceres represents the process of birth death and renewal. It seems with the  Cabulco volcano in Chile and the Nepalese earthquake that Earth Mother epitomised by Ceres is once again reacting violently to what humanity is doing to planet Earth. In her capacity of goddess of the grain, Ceres is closely associated with Virgo.

Taurus is also referred to esoterically as the Golden Eyed Bull of God which represents illumination with its keynote being: “I see and when the Eye is opened, all is light”. This connotes that the goal of the aspirant in the second sign is illumination.. The esoteric ruler of Taurus is Vulcan, the forge who is the god of the Hammer and the Forge. His role is to beat “base metal” into a more refined state for spiritual purposes which aids in this transmutation.

The Execution of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran – a pastor and painter

The other tragic event was the execution of the two Australian citizens, the Bali duo, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, which took place at 12.35 am 29 April 2015 in Cilicap in Indonesia. The issue of capital punishment has polarised people with 80% of people in Indonesia supporting the death penalty while here in Australia and in other countries there has been a groundswell of protest against the death penalty with people galvanised to support the Mercy campaign. I am glad that I attended one of the Mercy vigils. I stand for mercy.

On a collective level there has been widespread condemnation of the executions in Indonesia. The UN’s secretary-general has spoken out against the execution of eight drug convicts in Indonesia, saying the death penalty had “no place” in the 21st century. Despite a number of appeals and international outrage, the Indonesian government executed seven foreigners – including the two Australians – and one Indonesian national by firing squad. There are still 58 countries that have the death penalty. The issue has acted as a catalyst to do some soul-searching here and abroad about the issue of capital punishment. It is interesting to note on the day of the Full Moon that the Australian Federal Police, so long criticised for their role in handing over the Bali Nine to the Indonesians, finally held a press conference to clarify their position.

The Birth of a Princess

Finally on a brighter note after a week of tragic events the week culminated in a more joyous occasion – the birth of the Princess Charlotte of Cambridge to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. There are many correspondences between the natal chart (2 May 2015, 8.34 am London UK) of the new Princess and her family. It is always fascinating to examine the astrological family tree whether it be that of the royal family or other families. The princess was born in the sign of Taurus sharing that birth sign with her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Charles has the Moon and North Node in the sign of Taurus making another strong connection with his first grand daughter. She also has Jupiter in the royal sign of Leo – the birth sign of many royals of past and present including her great-great grandmother – the late Queen Mother, her great-great aunt, the late Princess Margaret and her great aunt Princess Anne.  She has the Moon in Libra so she is doubly blessed with Venusian charm since Venus rules both Taurus and Libra hence the nick name ‘Sleeping Cutie’! She has a Cancer ascendant which links her with her father Prince William who has the Sun and Moon in Cancer, with her brother older brother, Prince George, who is also a Cancerian and whose Jupiter and Mars sit right on his baby sister’s ascendant. Her mother, Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, has a Moon in Cancer and last but not least the Princess has strong links with her paternal grandmother, the late Diana Princess of Wales, whose Sun and Mercury in Cancer sit close to her grand daughter’s Cancer ascendant. That is just a bit of a snapshot of the family dynamics between the new royal and her family.

In these challenging times we need to remain centred. One way of doing this would be to join the worldwide meditations for the Wesak full Moon said to be the most powerful Moon of the year on 4 May 1.42.02 pm AEST Sydney time to achieve inner peace on a personal level and raise the level of vibrations for the Highest Good of all humanity.

Love and Blessings
