Capricorn the sea goat
emerges from the ocean
Sure footed she begins
her arduous climb
to the mountain top
Forsaking mere ambition
She kneels in humility
upon the rocky summit
and receives the vision
which unlocks the secrets
to the door of life

Poem by Anne Robertson (c) 1987

Happy Birthday to all the Capricorns who celebrate their birthdays from 23 December to 20th January. For our Capricorn card my sister, Sue, and I chose the image  of Mother Hulda, an archetypal wise old woman from Teutonic folklore, who was popularised by the Grimm Brothers. A spinner and weaver, she symbolises the workings of fate and Mother Nature, rewarding diligence and humility, and punishing idleness and greed. this is all in keeping with Saturn known as the Lord of Karma that symbolises diligence and responsibility.

Transits for Capricorn
Capricorns are currently experiencing the transit of Pluto through their sun sign. Pluto, the planet of transformation, is currently at 14 degrees Capricorn so almost midway while Uranus, the planet of sudden change is squaring Pluto. So the 2 change agents Pluto and Uranus will be affecting Capricorns or for that matter anyone with cardinal signs – Aries, Cancer, Libra or and Capricorn within the 12 – 18 degree range. Added to the mix Dynamic Mars has also been forming a T square to Uranus and Pluto. It is moving away now but it would explain the current turbulence people  are experiencing both on a personal and collective level.

Summer/Winter Solstice 21-22 December 2015

southern_solsticeDecember is a month for festivals and celebrations with the summer/winter solstices occurring on the 21-22 December and with the Sun moving into Capricorn on 23 December followed by Christmas day on 25 December. The Solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice, once in summer and once in winter, each year when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the North or South Pole. During Solstices the tilt of the axil of the Earth (with respect to the Sun) is the maximum at 23° 26′.

Seasonal configuration of Earth and SunSolstices occur on 20th or 21st June and 21st or 22nd December each year. During summer the day of the solstice is the longest day of the year and during winter the day of the solstice is the shortest day of the year. It is a time where people since time immemorial have celebrated the astronomical phenomena. The solstices and the equinoxes mark the change of the seasons elevating Earth’s vibrations.

Full Moon in Cancer 25 Dec 2015The Full Moon in Cancer on Christmas Day

The Full Moon  will occur at 3 degrees 19′ Cancer at 10:11:26 pm on Christmas Day AEDT Sydney time. Cancer is the ruling sign of the Moon so the Moon is completely at home in its own sign. Cancer is a water sign which governs maternal instincts, feelings and sensitivity. For our Cancer astrology card my sister, Sue, and I chose the sacred feminine archetype, Kwan Yin known as the ‘Lady of the Moon’. She represents the ancient Chinese symbol of the 4 CancerWorld Mother, Goddess of mercy and protectress of children. I will leave you with Sue’s beautiful poem which encapsulates the very essence of Cancer, which will be the energy of this Full Moon.

Moon mother,
yin maiden,
smiling from your silver
empress throne.
Spin dreams and silken fantasy,
glide noiselessly on cloudless skies
holding ancient pearly wisdom
in your womb.
Nurture gently your creation,
Send fertile seed to earth like rain
pulling softly on the tides
of time and change

    Hi Anne
It’s lovely to see Sue’s artwork again and to read your poems. Full Moon in Cancer on Christmas Day would be harmoniously symbolic for those celebrating the Christian mother on that day I think. And maybe its influence may help calm the more fractious aspects of the day that are characteristic of some Christmas get-togethers! Here’s hoping for a peaceful day and full-moon night for all! Love, Muriel X
